The massive cloud service Dropbox just released an app on Xbox One. This allows players to stream whatever they have (movies, music, photos) on their Dropbox account onto their TV through a interface designed specifically with a controller or media remote in mind.
The app includes the normal features for Dropbox including uploading, sharing, and commenting on files. When Dropbox launched on Roku last summer there were a few restrictions such as only playing movies up to 15 minutes long, that may carry over to this app as well.
If you want to try it out for yourself, you can download Dropbox on Xbox One here. Dropbox said that the app should be available sometime today, though we checked at the time of this writing and it wasn't yet available. This adds to the growing list of streaming services coming to the console.
The ability to stream movies from your Dropbox account seems like it could be rad, but if it has the same restrictions as the Roku then it'll be far easier to just use Windows Media Player. For now until we get our hands on it this app is a toss-up at best. Obviously, it's still best to use this service for videos you acquired legally.
